
Two former Bostonians who lived through the historic period, remember a time when you could buy apples on the corner for five cents.
"I worked in the Boston public library as a stock boy, I was earning 30 cents an hour," Dr. George Milman said.
Joe Corbisiero earned even less.
"When I graduated high school I worked at a grocery store for 25 cents an hour," he said.
Both men now work as engineers and say growing up in the depression changed their outlook on money. And when asked what advice they had for young people dealing with the current economic situation.
"I know its going to be tough to get through these years. Try to save as much money as you can work hard at any job, waitress, work whatever and try to make money to go to school if you can afford to," Corbisiero said.
