Are you 18 and want cigarettes? Think again.

18 year olds can say goodbye to buying cigarettes in Onondaga County. Today, the “Tobacco 19 Law” will go into effect.

The law bans stores from selling tobacco products to anyone under the age of 19. However, one exception to the law is for 18-year-olds who actively serve in the military, the National Guard, or the reserves.

The purpose of Tobacco 19 is not just to keep 18 year olds from smoking, but to keep them from buying cigarettes for younger teens.
Some don't think the law will have much of an impact.
"I think it's hard to keep them from doing," said Chris Myers of Syracuse. "I mean, if they're going to pass it down to the youth, they're going to do it whether the law is 18 or 19. There's not much difference."
