Schenectady, N.Y. (AP) - Buckle your seat belt, check your mirrors, and don't text. In Schenectady County, any driver caught texting may get a $150 ticket.
County spokesman Joe McQueen says the main goal isn't to have police hunting down texters, but to bring awareness to the dangers of texting while driving.
Westchester, Suffolk and Nassau counties all have laws against text messaging when in the driver's seat. Similar bills are currently being reviewed by the state Legislature.
