The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at President Bush will go on trial next week. The charge is assaulting a foreign leader. The appeals court refused the defense's request to reduce the charge to simply insulting President Bush.In another shoe throwing incident. The Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao has asked Britain's Cambridge University to pardon a student who threw a shoe at him during his speech there earlier this month. The Chinese government was outraged by the incident and many Chinese citizens considered it an insult to their country.
"It is hoped that the university will give the student an opportunity to continue his studies at the university," Wen was quoted as saying by China's ambassador in London, Fu Ying, in a statement posted on the Foreign Ministry's Web site.
