NYC Job Cuts

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is considering reducing New York City's municipal workforce by 20,000. The mayor says most cuts are likely to come in the city's homeless department, the children's welfare agency and the education department.

This plan is an attempt to address the city's budget defict as the economic situation worsens. A $4 billion budget looms for the next fiscal year which begins in July.

"You can only get so much blood out of a stone through budget cuts and other measures," says Bloomberg. "After that, city jobs are the next victims."
