President Obama ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider California's request to impose tighter standards on auto emissions and set its own fuel efficiency standards. He said that the goal was not to burden an already struggling industry but to help it prepare for the future.Obama says that it is important to end the U.S's dependence on foreign oil. He also says that it is important to "build a new energy economy that will create millions of jobs."
He has directed his administration to come up with new auto fuel-efficiency guidelines so that they can be put into effect in 2011 car models.
